Johnstown, Pennsylvania - A City With A Lot Of History

Johnstown, Pennsylvania is a city that is known for its long history, its steel mills, and the floods that occurred in 1888, 1936, and 1977. The largest problems that Johnstown face are economic troubles and a continued fear that another flood may happen. Like Altoona, Johnstown's downtown is faced with a problem of remaining relavent in the 21st century. Their means of bringing people into the downtown, much like Altoona's, do so for a day, but fail to solve the largest problem of how to keep people coming back to the downtown.

Johnstown's downtown and surrounding neighborhoods lie in a mountain valley, but outside of the downtown and nearby neighborhoods, much of the city is built on much higher ground, which is why in the city's downtown, the precipitation falling can be in the form of rain, while in another neighborhood it could be falling as snow. The views from atop places such as the Inclined Plane are famous enough that the Inclined Plane is an attraction that most people enjoy so that they can ride to the top and down again, or vice versa. The bottom of the inclined plane ride is in the downtown, while the top is in another neighborhood. The hillside, built on a 35 degree angle, was too steep to develop save for that inclined plane ride.
